BESPOKE HEIRLOOM DOLLS HOUSES
OBJECTS OF IMAGINATION
Historically, dolls' houses sat somewhere between craftsmanship, decoration, storytelling and fantasy. Small worlds built to express ideas about home and the lives people imagined within them.
Centuries later, they still have the power to stop people in their tracks.
Part decorative object, part miniature world and part family heirloom, a dolls' house offers a different way of seeing home. Not through practicality or scale, but through imagination, memory and the details we choose to surround ourselves with.
Each dolls' house commission is painted entirely by hand in my Lincolnshire studio and created as a one-of-a-kind piece. Inspired by architecture, interiors, decorative arts and the stories people attach to home, every house develops its own character and narrative.
MINIATURE WORLDS
Some commissions are inspired by family homes. Others draw from favourite buildings, childhood memories, historic interiors or entirely imagined worlds.
Recent projects have incorporated painted gardens inspired by crewel work discovered at the Victoria & Albert Museum, chinoiserie details influenced by visits to English country houses, miniature birdcages, hand-painted wallpapers and rooms imagined for occupants who exist only in the stories we create around them.
Freed from the constraints of scale and practicality, miniature interiors invite a different kind of creativity. Colours become richer. Patterns become bolder. Details that might go unnoticed in a full-sized room suddenly become the centre of attention.
Perhaps that is why people remain so captivated by them.
THE JOY OF MAKING
I grew up making dolls’ houses with my grandmother. Learning about “good” taste and William Morris wallpapers.
Together we painted rooms, debated wallpaper choices and spent hours arranging interiors. It was through those projects that I first discovered decorative arts, pattern and the idea that our homes can tell stories about who we are.
Every commission draws on that same spirit of discovery.
COMMISSIONING A DOLLS HOUSE
Each house is developed around a conversation. Some clients arrive with a particular building or interior in mind. Others simply want to create something magical for a child, grandchild or future generation.
From colour palettes and decorative schemes to architectural details and personal references, every commission is tailored to its owner.
Designed to be played with, displayed and passed on, these are pieces intended to become part of a family's story.
Prices start from £1,500 for the hand-painted decoration of a client's own dolls' house, with options for sourcing a house, bespoke interiors and curated vintage furnishings.
